Aachen – live where history meets technology

Aachen is located in the border triangle Germany – the Netherlands – Belgium. Its historic center around the distinctive cathedral, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, is characterized by the student lifestyle. In the old town quarter and its pubs, restaurants and shops, one can literally touch European history. The great number of students makes student life in Aachen a vibrant and unique experience. Aachen is a modern city, open to the world, with political, economic and cultural contacts that reach far beyond Germany’s borders. But find out yourself what makes the most western metropolis in Germany so special.

This year in Aachen was challenging and fruitful. From the classes, experiments, thesis, I not only learned academic skills, but also learned to be extremely conscientious in academic area.

I attended many parties, changed from shy and silent to confident and easy to communicate. I met many great teachers and friends, and from them, I saw my shortcomings. I traveled around Nordrhein-Westfalen and also some other countries, thus had a deep understanding of European cultures.

Thanks for the friendship and help from everyone in this program.

I really appreciate the International Academy for the fantastic experience of the master’s college. I have gone through the well-organized coursed, including Mechanical Design, Mechanical Modeling and Simulation, Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, Thesis Presentation and Research Internship at the Institute of General Mechanics. During my stay at the Institute of General Mechanics, I am really inspired by the friendliness and professionalism of the colleagues and professor. They, as well as the coordinators from the International Academy, offered me great help regarding both the academic problems and living in Aachen. I am grateful for this incredible experience of studying in RWTH Aachen, one of the best engineering universities.

After finishing my bachelors, I wanted to take one step forward on my career and I applied to M.Sc. Textile Engineering at RWTH Aachen University.

I find the German compulsory subjects in this Master’s program very helpful to improve our technical German level. I also chose all my elective courses taught in German to prepare myself for future opportunities in the textile industry in Germany.

Germany is a very important manufacturer for technical textiles and textile machines where I can pursue my future goals. Aachen is a very multicultural city with a long history and beautiful historical buildings. The city provides everything I need (pubs, cafes, parks, restaurants, cultural activities etc.) while studying in Aachen. It is the only city in Germany where I can travel so easily to Netherlands and Belgium. The semester ticket gives students the opportunity to discover some big cities in Germany like Cologne, Düsseldorf and Dortmund.

Experience internationality in the heart of Europe

Only a few kilometers from the city center, one can find the “Border Triangle” where the frontiers of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany meet. The attraction of living in this area includes a colorful mix of languages and people as well as short travel distances to cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne or even Paris. On the city’s doorsteps, the hilly Eifel landscape with its rivers, lakes and forests offers a picturesque countryside.
